Studies on Pollen Viability of Pears in Hunan

The pollen viability of 5 pear varieties were measured and the effects on pollen tubes growth by different kinds of culture media and growth control matter were discussed. The results obtained showed that embryonic rate of Xinshiji was the highest and its pollen tube had the highest growth rate. In all varieties,the embryonic rate of rim flower was higher than the central flowers. Of all periods,the big buds had the highest embryonic rate,while the small buds had the lowest. The best combination of culture medium was:B 5 mg/L and sucrose 20 g/L. An adding of gibberellin 50 mg/L and 2,4 D 5 mg/L into culture medium could promote the pollen viability signiticantly.
