Pollen Viability of Senecio hybridus

To investigate the pollen viability of Senecio hybridus,the rates of dyeing and the rates of germination of 5 Senecio hybridus with different color flowers(roseate flowers with a little white inner part,purple flowers,roseate flowers,light red flowers with a little white inner part,white flowers with roseate rim)were determined.The results show that:1) The pollens of Senecio hybridus were hard to be dyed in short time through either TTC dyeing or iodine-kalium iodide dyeing because there were many seta on the surface of pollen of Senecio hybridus;the rates of dyed pollen of Senecio hybridus for 6~8 h reached only 8.33%~22.2%,and it didn’t change much after stored in 3~4 ℃ for 68 days.2) There are differences on pollen viability among 5 Senecio hybridus.3) The concentration of sucrose and boric acid are the important factors for the germination of pollen of Senecio hybridus,either 50 mg/L sucrose or 2.0 mg/L boric acid could propel germination of pollen of Senecio hybridus with roseate flowers with a little white inner part.4) The germination percentage of the pollens of Senecio hybridus stored in 3~4 ℃,35% humidity for 68 days,was obviously improved,of them the that of Senecio hybridus white flowers with roseate rim increased 88.5% more than the fresh pollen’s.
