Heterosis for agronomic traits of flue-cured tobacco ms-hybrids

ZHAO Song-yi,GAO Chun-yang,HU Ri-sheng,ZHU Lie-shu(Central-South Agricultural Experiment Station,CNTC,Changsha 410128,China)  
Twelve hybrid crosses between 3 cytoplasmic male sterile lines and 4 varieties of flue-cured tobacco popular in China were used to determine the heterosis in the following agronomic characters:stem height,leaf quantity,leaf length,leaf width,length/width of leaf,stem girth,pitch and weight of single leaf.Results were as follows:(1)stem height,leaf quantity,leaf length,leaf width,stem girth,pitch and weight of single leaf of tobacco of the hybrids were over both parental means in the average performance,and length/width of leaf equal to parents.(2)heterosis from mid-parent value was founed in most crosses,and weight of single leaf in 100.00% crosses were significantly different at 0.05 or 0.01 levels,so were the other economic characters in 8.33%~25.00% crosse;(3)heterosis over higher parent was founded in 16.67% crosses on average,and weight of single leaf in 75.00% crosses were significantly defferent at 0.05 or 0.01 levels,so were the other agricultural characters in 8.33%~16.67% crosse;(4)no crosse heterosis below lower-parent for the agronomic traits,except length/width of leaf in 8.33% crosses,was significantly different at 0.05 or 0.01 levels.
