MOLECULARBIOLOGY OF PLANT CHITINASES

Recent achievements in structure and functions of chitinases,post transcriptional and post translational processes,expression,regularity and classifications of chitinase genes were reviewed Chitinase precursors contain N signal pepride and main catalytic domain.Some have chitin binding domain and or C signal vacule directing peptide.Mose chitnases are inducible by biotic factors such as pathogens or abiotic factors such as ethylene.The inducibility seems to be tissue specific and development regulated.Chitinase precursors become matured proteins by removal of N signal peptide,hydroxylation of proline and removal of C signal peptide.Chitinases were devided into five classes of four groups by two different calssification systems.
