Analysis of hemodynamic alterations of basilar artery in patients with diabetes mellitus by TCD

Zhang Kezhen,Yan Bingchuan,Long Cuiying.Department of Neurology,the Central Hospital of Luohe,Luohe 462000,China
Objective To observe the hemodynamic alteration of basilar artery(BA)in 81 diabetic patients by transcranial Doppler ultrasound(TCD).Methods The results of TCD of 81 diabetic patients were compared with 90 hypertensive patients. Results In diabetic group, the rate of high cerebral blood flow welocity in BA was slightly lower than MCA;but in hypertensive group, acceleration of the flow in BA was much lower than MCA.In comparison with each other,in diabetic group acceleration of the blood flow in the BA was obviously higher than that in hypertensive group. And the abnormality of spectrum and audio-frequency in the BA of diabetic group were significantly higher than those of not only the BA of control group, but also MCA and VA in the same group. Conclusion TCD examination can be used to detect latent diabetes in diabetic patients and nondiabetic patients and to prevent cerebrolvascular occlusion in diabetic patients.
