COMPARATIVE OBSERVATION ON THE UREA NITROGEN AND CREATININE LEVELS IN BLOOD AND SALIVA OF PATIENTS TREATED WITH HEMODIALYSIS

This article introduced a simple and useful method of urea nitrogen and creatininedetermination in saliva instead of blood samples.The urea nitrogen and creatininelevels in saliva and blood of 24 patients treated with hemodtialysis were comparedsimultaneously.Statistical analysis showed that there was remarkably a positivecorrelation between the values of urea nitrogen and creatinine in saliva and bloodbefore and after the administration of hemodialysis.The concentrations of ureanitrogen and creatinine in saliva were determined in 110 normal subjects.Their meanvalues were 7.2±3.69mg/dl and 1.01±0.77mg/dl respectively.In a comparativestudy of 30 healthy persons,no significant bifference between the levels of chemicalconstituents in saliva and blood was found.Therefore,we can followup the change ofurea nitrogen and creatinine in blood of patients treated with hemodialysis througha corresponding determination of that in saliva.
