Study on the antimicrobial resistance in Shigella spp.

Objective Study on the antimicrobial resistance in Shigella spp.Methods A total of73clinical isolates were collected.Susceptibility test(Kirby-Bauer)of11antimicrobial agents were performed.Four quinolones were Pipemidic adcid,Ciprofloxacin,Ofloxacin,and Norfloxacin.Other seven antimicrobial agents were Teracycline,Chloramphenicol,Streptomycin,Sulfamethoxazole,Ampicillin,Gentamicin,and Cephalothin.Results The resistance rates for shigella spp.isolates to TE,C,S,SMX,and Am varied from68.5%to86.3%,to CF was34.2%,to PI ,CIP,NOR,and OFL were79.5%,60.3%,41.1%,and36.9%.The differences of resistance rates between PI and CIP,NOR and OFL were significant (both P0.05).The multiresistance rate for Shigella spp.isolates was79.5%.The differences of resistance rates between different Shigella spp.and places of isolate were statistically significant (both P0.05).Conclusions The Shigella spp.had high resistance rates to seveval antimicrobial agents except GM.The resistance varied with different Shigella spp.and places of isolate.To treat some certain quinolone-resistant Shigella spp.can choose another quinolones by susceptibility test.
