Correlation between tooth loss and chronic disease of elders in Hebei province

Aim: To study the tooth loss situation of people over 60 years old,and explore the relationship between tooth loss and chronic disease and provide information for prevention work of oral disease among the elderly in Hebei province. Methods: 1 343 subjects over 60 years old were selected by stratified random sampling method to collect the information about tooth loss and chronic diseases. Results: The rate of tooth loss of people over 60 years old was 61. 9%. There was significant difference of the tooth loss rate in gender,region,age and people with or without chronic diseases( χ2=4. 579,5. 191,55. 961,6. 697,14. 638,12. 743 and 10. 141,P 0. 05). Logistic regression analysis showed that gender,region,age,diabetes mellitus,coronary heart disease,hypertension and stroke had a positive correlation with tooth loss,OR( 95% CI) values were 1. 365( 1. 070- 1. 741),1. 296( 1. 012- 1. 658),1. 517( 1. 322- 1. 741),1. 445( 1. 033-2. 022),1. 707( 1. 176- 2. 478),1. 365( 1. 032- 1. 712),1. 904( 1. 120- 3. 238),respectively. Conclusion: Chronic disease and tooth loss were positively correlated,which indicates that we should pay more attention to oral disease prevention among the elderly with chronic diseases.
