THE ZONATION OF ORE BEARING SECONDARY QUARTZITE AND ITS PETROCHEMICAL EVOLUTION, XIANYAN AREA, ZHEJIANG

Xianyan area is located in the southwestern margin of Daloushan megacaldera, Mesozoic volcanic belt of coastal Zhejiang. It is an intersection position of NE and NNE fault belts. It includes two cycles. The first one is dacitic in nature and was altered to be the ore-bearing secondary quartzitei the second is dacitic and andesitic, which covered the first cycle with unconformable contact. The alternation and mineralization of the area are multistage and multievent. This paper only deals with the zonation of the ore-bearing secondary quartzite of the main alternation and mineralization stage and its evolution in petrochemical character. The quartzite was strictly controlled by Xianyanshi volcanic structure and was the resultant of hydrothermal metasomatism on the first cycle dacitic volcanics and subvolcanic rock-fine grained dioritic porphyrite during along period. The combination of the early stage disseminated mineralization and the late stage cryptoexplosive stockworks and breccia was the chief ore genesis process, the latter superimposed on the former. Based on the dominant characteristic mineral assemblages from deeper to shallower part, we divided it into four metasomatic zones: 1. anhydrite-andalusite-quartz zone, thickness greater than 300m, also occurred alunite, pyrite, muscovite, low temperature kalifeldspar and some tourmaline; 2. corundum-andalusite-quartz zone, 50-150m thick, corundum although appeared as a member of the association, its development was weaker than that of the andalusite, the amount of alunite increased greatly;3. empholite-alunite-quartz zone, 30-250m thick, the common assemblages are empholite-alunite-quartz and pyrite-alunite-quartz, the feldspar phenocrysts of the original rocks mostly changed into empholite, alunite and quartz, while those dark mineral phenocrysts were altered to pyrite; 4. rutile-dickite-quartz zone, 20-210m thick, was a widespread zone with quartz being the dominant mineral, the other minerals include barite, hematite ( specularite ) , pyrite and occasionally fluorite. The zonation of the ore-bearing secondary quartzite in space clearly denotes that as the temperature decreased, the mineral phase developed in the following sequences anhydrite-andalusite-corundum-andalusite-empholite-alunite-dickite. Although the development of the four me-tasomatic zones may be different, their zonation extension and intensity suggested that they were surfacial alternation. The late stage cryptoexplosion occured after the formation of the secondary quartzite and the banded brecciated ore bodies are thus formed in the area.This stage was characterized by the filling of ore bearing fluids. Mineral composition was simple. Some lateral zonation may be observed. The sequential changing of the altered minerals was an important feature of the zonation. High aluminium minerals arranged in descending order by lowering of temperature. In vertical section, andalusite concentrated in zones 1 , 2 , alunite in zones, 2 , 3 , the widely distributed quartz has a maximum in zone 4 . The grain size of altered minerals increased with depth. For example, the euhedral degree alunite changed from shallow to deep in the following tendency:fibrous or scaly,hypautom-orphic foliaceous, idiomorphic platy or pseudocubic rhombohedron, megacryst with inclusions of andalusite, pyrite and quartz. The chemical composition of the minerals also changed as their occurrence changed. The studing of the chemical characters of the metasomatic rocks reveals the migration of major elements contents in vertical section among different zones. Potassium was taken out in all of the four zones, with the highest taking out in the 4th zone. The total iron content of the 3rd zone was somewhat higher than the background value. Aluminium was taken out severely in the 4th zone, but in the other zones was not so much. Maximum of silicon occured in the 4th zone. Calcium was brought in the 1st zone. Sulfur became higher from bottom to top in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd zones. S04 and OH~ values have maxima in all of the zones,
