Funaria hygrometrica hediv. is a short plant, which likes to grow in the shade and damp places. Its stem has no real vascular system. It is of nonoecism. On the female branch usually there are many archegoria, in each of which eggs can be fertilized but only one of the fertilized eggs develops into sporophore. The release of spores takes place by hygroscopic movement of peri-stomal teeth. The spores are germinated into protonema at about 15℃ .The study of funaria hygrometrica hedw. is useful for collecting, distinguishing and observing materials for biological experiments .
