In every turning point of tourism development in China, tourism elements will be proposed to " expand and upgrade",from 3 elements to 6 elements, and even 18 elements. Taking the systematicness, the essence, the stability and the variability of the tourism elements as the logical starting point, using the systematic analysis, this paper absorbs both of the traditional six elements and the new elements into the structure of the tourism system, and makes integrated analysis with the tourism space system, the complex tourism system, the public tourism supply system and the tourism marketing put forward by the scholars at home and abroad. It finds that all of the elements of the tourism system in different perspectives and dimensions converge to the " tourists" elements. The basic elements in the tourist demand subsystem are " food and beverage, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, entertainment",and the " sightseeing" is the most basic, the most essential and the most fountainhead elements of the tourism system. The expansion and upgrading of tourism elements is not a simple addition of more new elements, but the connotation and quality improvement of the tourist basic demand factor points,as well as the overall upgrading of the element plane of different elements system. This study reveals the structural characteristics and hierarchical relationship of the tourism element system in the multi dimension perspective, and confirms the core elements of tourism, which indicates the future direction for the expansion and upgrading of tourism elements.
