LOW-FREQUENCY COUPLED OSCILATION OF SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN THE CENTRAL SOUTH CHINA SEA, KUROSHIO AND THE EASTERN EQUATORIAL PACIFIC

The anomalies of sea surface temperature (SST) in the central South China Sea,Kuroshio and the eastern Equatorial Pacific have been analysed by using two-dimension spectral and lag correlation methods.The relationship among them is as follows.(1) A low-frequency coupled oscilation in phase with a dominant cycle of 2 years exists in SST in the central South China Sea and SST in Kuroshio,the former coming 3 months earlier than the latter.It is obvious that a 3-month cycle also exists between them but without obvious phase difference.The correlation coefficient is positive and obvious in winter semi-year,but not obvious in summer semi-year.( 2 ) A low-frequency coupled oscilation in phase with a dominant cycle of 3 years exists in SST in the central South China Sea and SST in the eastern Equato rial Pacific,the former logging behind the latter by about 4 months.
