Statistical Analysis of the Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Storms in Qingdao

Using the observations of 45 years,we analyzed the rainstorms statistically in Qingdao which is situated in the Shandong peninsula. It is found that the interannual variations in the rainstorm days are significant with the maximum 17 days and the minimum 1 day in one year and average 8 days per year. In recent years,the rainstorm days tend to increase. Rainstorms are highly concentrated primarily from the last ten days in June to the first ten days in September,which accounts for 82.4 % of the total rainstorms of a year,and the rainstorms are bimodal pattern in the annual circle. The severe rainstorms and regional rainstorms are even more concentrated almost in one month (August),and the temporal variation is unimodal with the peak phase in mid-August. Topography influences the distributions of rainstorms and severe rainstorms to a certain degree. There are differences in the characteristics of rainstorms between July and August in Qingdao: more local rainstorms in July,and more regional rainstorms and severe rainstorms in August. These results are of important significances in the respects of the mid-long term rainstorm forecast in Qingdao.
