T/S distribution and variation in the Pacific based on Argo observations,Part Ⅰ:Temperature

Temperature features and variations from Jan.2004 to Dec.2011 in the Pacific Ocean(60 °S-60°N、120°E-80°W) are discussed based on the gridded Argo dataset that only assimilates Argo observations by use of objective analysis method.The results show that in the west Pacific near equator,the scope of 29℃ isotherm(warm pool) enlarges significantly in summer,the location is on the north side,and its thickness is limited to the upper 100 m or so;at the middle depth(about150 m) of the subtropical,there exist two high temperature(more than 27 ℃ in the south and more than 24 ℃ in the north)centers in the south and north in a saddle distribution.Their symcenter is not equator but bias about 8 ° N to the northern hemisphere;near the latitude of 40° in the south or north,the isotherms are so dense as to form the " front";the water with low temperature invades from south to north in the southeast of New Zealand,which is visible from the surface to 1 000 m deep and exists all the time of the year.The annual variation of temperature is the most obvious at the surface.Its tendency is one high and one low every year and it is particularly significant in the subtropical with the temperature annual variation range more than 9.5 ℃ in the north hemisphere and about 6.0 ℃ in the south hemisphere.The highest and lowest temperatures in the north hemisphere appear in August and February respectively.The south hemisphere is opposite.Below the surface,the periodical variation of Temperature is less evident than the surface.Deep to the 500 m,the largest variation range is only 1.0 ℃.In the equatorial,sea surface temperature has obvious interannual variation with 3-6 months.Surface temperature in the north subtropical has the interannual variation of three to six months.Interannual variation is more slower at the middle layers,while irregular interannual variation exists from the surface to middle layers in the near south polar sea waters.
