DETERMINATION OF TRACE BISMUTH IN STEEL BY HYDRIDE GENERATION-ATOMIC FLUORESCENCE SPECTROMETRY

A simple and fast analytical procedure for the determination of bismuth in steel by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry(HG-AFS) was developed. The influence of instrument parameters such as current of lamp,atomizer height,voltage of PMT,carrier gas rate,shield gas rate and concentration of HCl and KBH4 on the determination of bismuth were studied, and the optimized conditions were obtained. Interference of coexistent elements and methods to eliminate the interference were investigated in detail. The results showed that thiourea and ascorbic acid were the best occultation reagent. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range of bismuth was 0-100 ng/mL and the relative standard deviation was 2.5%(n=10) for 20 ng/mL Bi standard solution.The detection limit was 0.187 ng/g.The standard sample was determined by the method with satisfactory results .
