The application of high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) in combination with ICP-MS as analytical tools in environmental sciences was reviewed.The scientific literature of the past 10 years was cited to cover the major developments in this field.First,important methodological aspects of the coupling of ICP-MS to high performance liquid chromatography was discussed.Along this line of method design and improvement,illustrative applications were presented to emphasize the impact of the ethodological developments on the field of environmental studies.In particular,a more detailed discussion of ICP-MS instrumentation and the discussion of other application fields of elemental speciation analysis(including biology,bioinorganic chemistry and biomedicine) were reviewed.
