Prehistoric Walled towns and the Formation of the Central Position of the Central Plains in the Ancient Chiness Civilization

Neolithic walled towns found in the Yellow and Yangzi River valleys can be di- vided into several clusters with a similar trajectory of development and decline. Among many regional cultures which nourished around 3500 BC, the one in the Central Plains continued to develop and eventually evolved into the center of ancient Chinese civilization. This article analyzes the process of such development and proposes a model for explaining the evolutionary trajectory of ancient culture in the Central Plains.
