Influence of the Hydrologic and Geomorphic Conditions upon the Location of Settlements in the Jiaodong Peninsula

Shi Benheng;
Research on the relationship of settlements with their environments is one of the important contents of settlement archaeology. The location of man's settlements in ancient times was influenced by various natural environmental factors. The present paper,first of all,studies the regular pattern of settlement distribution in the Jiaodong Peninsula from the Beixin Culture period to the Yueshi Culture period by using GIS-system and SRTM data. Then,based on the SRTM data and other relevant information,it investigates the geomorphologic and hydrologic conditions of this area,analyzes the relationship of the settlement location with those conditions,and discusses the results of these studies. Finally,it researches into man's cultural adaptation behaviors to natural environments that are reflected from this relationship.
