RELATIONSHIPS OF WINTER EAST GREENLAND SEA ICE ANOMALY AND WINTER ATLANTIC STORM-TRACKS

Singular value decomposition(SVD)is conducted for the sea-ice density over the ocean on the east to Greenland and 500 hPa filtered potential height variance of 45 storm track regions.The results show that the first couple of mode obtained from SVD depicts the effect of sea-ice over the ocean on the east to Greenland on the variability of storm.Furthermore,composite analysis indicates that winter sea-ice anomaly is closely associated with the general circulation which gives rise to the change of pressure gradient,meridional and vertical eddy heat flux and baroclinicity,accordingly,influence on the storm track vigor and the center migration.
