Sensitive spectrophotometric determination of arsenic as crystal violet 12-molybdoarsenate in the presence of nonionic surfactants

A highly sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of arsenic was devoloped. In the presence of nonionic surfactants, the optimal conditions for the quantitative formation of the ion-association complex of molybdoarsenic acid with crystal violet,(CV)_3(AsMo_(12)O_(40),were described. The calibration curve is linear with in the range of 0~15.0 μgAs/25 ml, and the molar absorptivity is 1.70×10~5 1·mol~(-1)·cm~(-1), the molar ratio of CV:(AsMo_(12)O_(40))=3:1. The proposed procedure was applied to the simultaneous determination of traces of arsenic and phosphorus in steel and hair. The results were satisfactory.
