Study on the Interfacial Compatibilization and Section Morphology of PP/PP-g-MAH/Superfin Mica Blend

WU Wei, DENG Fa jin (Petrochemical Institute, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai 201512, China)  
In view of lacking affinity between PP and mica the property improving of PP by mica is not definite. The superfine mica was treated with coupling agent KH 570 and the PP/mica were compatibilized by PP g MAH. Results showed that, strength, modulus, hardness and toughness of PP were raised efficiently and simultaneously. As a result of increasing the interfacial strength and the interfacial layer thickness by PP g MAH, the mechanical properties of PP/PP g MAH/mica were better than that of PP/mica when the mica was disposed with KH 570. Furthermore, the mica possessed obvious nucleation effect on the crystallization process of PP, thus the crystallization temperature and the melting temperature of the modified PP were increased.
