Study on the Charge and Discharge Performance of Lithium Ion Batteries at Low Temperature

The charge and discharge characteristics of lithium ion batteries at different temperature (room temperature~-30 ℃) were investigated.Results showed that lithium ion batteries had poor charge and discharge performance at low temperature.with temperature down to -30 ℃,the discharge capacity dropped to 87% of the capacity obtained at room temperature,the average discharge voltage reduced 0.598 V,the charge capacity during constant current process was only 14% of the total charge capacity and the constant voltage charge time extended.The main limitation of the low temperature performance for lithium ion batteries was also studied by electrochemistry impedance spectroscopy.
