Researches on Chemically Modified Electrode XVIII. Heat Treatment of Cobalt Tetraphenylporphyrin Modified Electrode and Catalytic Reduction of Dioxygen on Its Surface

The heat treatment of cobalt tetraphenylporphyrin chemically modified glassy carbon electrode has been described. The modified electrode by heat treatment [(PCo/GC)h] shows considerable catalytic activity and stability for dioxygen reduction. The catalytic activity is still maintained af ter 3000 circles of cyclic voltammetric scans (100mV/s) in O_2 saturated 0.05mol·L~(-1) H_2SO_4 solution. The effects of heat treatment tomperature from 500 to 1000℃ on the preparation and catalytic activity of the modified electrode have been studied. Using UV-VIS spectroscopy the possible structure of products by heat treatment on electrode surface has been analyzed. The electrocatalytic and dynamic behaviors for dioxygen reduction at the electrode have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and by rotating disk electrode respectively. The rate constant of dioxygen reduction at (PCo/GC)h electrode in 0.05mol·L~(-1) H_2SO_4 solution has been measured. The catalytic reduction of dioxygen to hydrogen peroxide at the eloctrode is a 2-electron irreversible process.
