Particle Nucleation during the Microemulsion Co-polymerization of Acrylic Octadecyl Ester and Styrene by Laser Light Scattering Method

The phase behavior of the system of cetylpyridine bromide/t-butanol/15%(acrylic octadecyl ester and styrene)/water was measure at 25.4℃. The kinetic of the acrylic octadecyl ester and styrene co-polymerization in O/W microemulsion system for cetyl pyridine bromide/t-butanol/15%[acrylic octadecyl ester and styrene (1∶2.5)]/water was studied by LLS method. The mechanism of nucleation of latex particles is discussed. The most possible nucleation locations of the acrylic octadecyl ester and styrene latex particles are solulization micelles and monomer microdrops.
