Synthesis and EL Properties of a New Tb-containing Monomer

A Tb-containing monomer, terbium-acrylate complex, has been synthesized and characterized by FTIR, EA and UV. Multi-layer electroluminescent (EL) device of the structure ITO/Tb-containing monomer/Alq_3/Al was fabricated. The device exhibited characteristic green electroluminescence of the Tb 3+ at 550nm at a turn-on voltage of about 24V. The EL spectrum, current-voltage and emission intensity-voltage characteristics of the device were measured and the EL machanism of the device was also discussed. The device also showed good operating and storage stability in ambient conditions.
