Synthesis of YVO_4/Eu~(3+) microrods by solid-state method and evaluation of its luminescent properties

Rod-like fluorescent powder of Eu3+-doped YVO4 was synthesized by high temperature solid state method using Y2O3,Eu2O3 and NH4VO3 as the starting materials and Na2CO3 as the fluxing agent.The structure,morphology and luminescent properties of as-prepared YVO4/Eu3+ were investigated by means of X-ray powder diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy and photoluminescence spectrometry.The growth mechanism of YVO4/Eu3+was discussed.Results indicate that as-prepared YVO4/Eu3+ fluorescent powder has the structure of tetragonal zircon and belongs to space group I41/amd.It appears as uniform microrods with an average diameter of 0.20 μm and length of 1.16 μm.Moreover,as-prepared YVO4/Eu3+ fluorescent powder exhibits a characteristic red emission of Eu3+ ions under excitation of ultraviolet at 395 nm.The strongest emitting peak of YVO4/Eu3+ is at 616 nm,which is assigned to 5D0→7F2 electric dipole transition of Eu3+ ions.
