Objective: To observe the efficacy and safety of total glucosides of paeony(TGP)combined with methotrexate(MTX) and sulfasalazine(SASP) on the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis.Methods:Fifty-eight patients with ankylosing spondylitis were randomly allocated to 2 groups: the experimental group(29 cases) was orally administrated with with TGP +MTX+ SASP;the control group(29 cases) with MTX + SASP,the therapeutic course for both groups was 3 months. Results: After 3 months' treatment, significant improved was observed in indexes(included schober test、duration of morning stiffness、chest expansion, erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),C reaction protein(CRP))in both groups as compared with baseline(P0.01),but the above indexes improve better in experiment group than that in the control group(P0.05);The side-effect rate is significant lower in experiment group than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusion: Total glucosides of wite paeony combined with methotrexate and sulfasalazine is a safe and effective mothod for ankylosing spondylitis.
