Submarine canyon is an important tunnel for transportation of terrigenous matter to deep sea and also a significant reservior of marine petroleum resources, vast distributions of submarine canyons in China's paralic zone were discovered by Chinese scientists through learning from foreign research fruits and their advanced methods.Recently, great fruits have been obtained since we started to make deep investigations on submarine canyons of western slope of Okinawa Trough, offshore Taiwan, northern seas of South China Sea and other sea areas around the earth, however, compared to overseas research,we are only in a primary stage of discovering and describing, systemic observation and study in-depth are desired to explain the formation mechanism and controlling factors of submarine canyons and discuss the relations between submarine canyons and evolvement of China's offshore area and oil-gas accumulation.
