Experimental Study on Myocardial Injury Induced by Selenium Deficiency in Rat

Zeng Xianhui et al (Institute of Keshan Disease)  
According to level of Selenium contents of synthetic diet, male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: normal Selenium (control group)and low Selenium (experimental group). The myocardial specimens were examined by light microscope, conventional and cytochemical electron microscope.The main findings were:focal coagulation necrosis of the heart muscle can be produced in rat with Selenium deficiency diet. The abnormal lanthanum nitrate deposition was observed between myofilaments, suggesting that alterations of myocardial cell membrance permeability was. appeared. Activity of cytochemical reactions in mitochondria of experimental group in cytochrome oxidase and succinate dehydrogenase were decreased.
