A Study on Effects of Vitamin E on Cardiac Lesion

Zeng Xianhui et al (Institute of Keshan disease)
The rats were fed on grains Produced in the endemic region of Keshan disease and grains Produced in no nendemic region, and besides, manganese (Mn) and isoproterenol (ISO) were added respectivels. Experimental animals were divided into four groups: A group non-endemic grains+Mn+ISO; B group endemic grains+Mn+ISO; C group non-endemic grains+Mn+VE+ISO; D group endemic grains+Mn+VE+ISO. The results showed that the level of MDA in the heart, the liver and the serum were apparently lower in the groups C and D(VE supplementation), compared with those in the groups A and B. Activity of cytochemical reaction in cytochrome and succin odehydrogenase of cardiac mitochondria in the groups C and D were increased. Detectable rate and extent of the cardiac necrosis also tended to reduction in the groups C and D. Detectable rate and extent of the cardiac necrosis remarkbly reduced in the group C (non-endemic grains). Those finding suggested that selenum may probably exert protective effects on cardiac lesion, in addition VE.
