Diagnosis and classification of astrocytic tumors by multi-slice CT perfusion imaging

Objective To evaluate multi-slice CT(MSCT) perfusion imaging in the diagnosis and classification of astrocytic tumors.Methods Twenty-four patients with astrocytic tumors were examined by MSCT perfusion imaging,the scanning images were processed in ADW 4.2 workstation.The cerebral blood flow(CBF),the cerebral blood volume(CBV) and the permeability surface(PS) were analysed.Results All perfusion images could clearly display brain tumors and easily know the differences between tumor and edema.PS images could clearly display essentral part of brain tumor and capillary permeability than other images.The values of CBV,CBF and PS of the astrocytoma tumors were all higher than that of white matters and edema area;The values of CBV,CBF,and PS of the high grade astrocytoma tumors were higher than that of low grade astrocytoma tumors.The values of CBV of the edema area connected to Ⅲ~Ⅳ grade astrocytoma tumor was higher than that of white matters.There was no statistically significant difference between two groups.Conclusion MSCT perfusion imaging is useful in preoperative evaluation of the histological grade of astrocytic tumors,moreover it can be used as a therapeutic endpoint.
