Synergic Effect between Selenium and Zinc on Protecting Myocardium Against Lesion

Zhou Baochu et al (Institute of Keshan Disease)
This paper reported dietary supplements of selenium or zinc to protect myocardium against lesion induced by sodium nitrite in low selenium and rich manganese diet. The experiment results showed that glutathione peroxidase activity was increased and lipid peroxidase was decreased significantly in individual selenium and zinc supplement group. When selenium and zinc supplement were combined. They exhibited greatest protection against lipid peroxidation. On the other hand, activity of cytochrome oxidase and succinate dehydrogenase of myocardial cell were higher and lesion rate of myocardium was markedly decreased in combined supplements group than those of individual antioxidant groups.
