DETERMINATION OF MEAN SEA SURFACE AND SEA SURFACE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE SEAS ADJACENT TO CHINA FROM T/P ALTIMETER DATA

In thes paper, fompear(1992-10-1996-10) altimeter dha from Topex / poseidon (T/ p)satollite over the Seas adjacent to China (0°-40°N 105°-135° E) are analyzed and preprocessed to elindnde tbe gross ermrs in the altimeter dat and the affections of geophysical environmnt.Thn they are used to determne a 30' x 30' mean sea surface relative to GRS80 Reference Ellipsoid with the stacking method, i.e. the collinear tracks of T/ p satellite are staCked at "normal poiflts" to product the mean theks. The sthcking procedare provides a sighificant compression of the original raw data and allows us to neglect the influence of various instantaneous oceanographic phenomena. The result of a cross-over analysis shows that the precision of the mean sea surfase is t 8.3cm(RMS). In order to detedrine the sea surfaCe topography, we empoy a straight-forward method,i.e. the contributions of the hybrid geoid model combined by the JGM-3 and the OSU91A geopotential models are deducted from the mean sea surface. Then a "tallored" method is adopted to determine the spherical harTnohics coefficients of the sea surface topograph of the region whose degree and order is up to 20. The bend of "southeast high and northwest low" can be seen cleary from the mean sea surfase in the region, and it also can be seen that the sea surfase topography is positive.
