A MATHEMATICAL MODEL SIMULATION OF A SHIP MOORED AGAINST A QUAY IN HARBOUR

A numerical simulation of a ship moored against a solid quay within harbour is studied in this paper. The moored ship is in shoreham harbour located in the south coast of U. K.,for which field data and physical model data are available to validate numerical vesults. Motion equations of a moored ship are solved numerically in time domain, an interation method and asymptotic expressions derived in the paper for damping coefficients at very low frequency are introduced in calculating impulse response functions of ship motions. The wave field in the harbour is analysed based on wave measurement by means of the resonant standing wave patterns of the harbour. Nonlinear features of moored ship motions are discussed.Numerical results of ship movements agree well with field data and experimental results.
