Determination of trace mercury in marine sediment sample by atomic fluorescence spectrometry using a slurry sampling technique

A simple and rapid method is proposed for the determination of mercury in marine sediment samples by atomic fluorescence spectrometry using a slurry technique. Sample was ground to 200 mesh and suspended uniformly in solution by electromagnetic stirrer. Under the optimum conditions, the detection limit of this method is 0.001μg/L and the recoveries are 90.5%~103.4%. The method has been applied for the analysis of mercury in standard reference materials, and consistent results were obtained.
