Green seaweed classification by infrared spectroscopy coupled clustering analysis

A fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) was used to study 16 samples of Antarctic green alga and Enteromorpha prolifera.The infrared spectrum of sample was mainly composed of the absorption of protein,lignin,aliphatic compound and polysaccharide.The infrared spectrums of samples were very similar with a litter differentia in 500~2000 cm-1(polysaccharide).The first derivative spectrum data of 500~2000 cm-1 region was identified with clustering analysis.The results showed that the Antarctic green alga and E.prolifera were identified.So,the present paper could offer a new approach to the discrimination of green seaweeds by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
