Numerical Calculation of Sea Wave in the Gulf of Guinea and Neighboring Water Area

Researching the characteristic of sea wave in the Gulf of Guinea and neighboring waters is important for China to carry out energy and economicooperation with African countries.With reanalysis wind data released by National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)the third generation wave model WWATCH is used in this sea area and sea wave field in 2004 is calculated by the model.Basing on the result of calculation the characteristics of sea wave field are discussed. The wave height obtained by WWATCH is compared with the significant wave height surveyed by Topex/Poseidon altimeter.It is showed that WWATCH model can exactly simulate the magnitude and change process of wave height in the Gulf of Guinea and neighboring waters, and that the calculating result in deeper waters is better than that in shallower water.
