UNDULATORY PROPULSION OF PORPOISE TAIL

Cheng Jianyu, Zhuang Lixian and Tong Binggang( Department of Modern Mechanics, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, 230026)  
Based on the unsteady potential flow theory, the lunate-tail swimming propulsion of fast ocean animals is analysed in this paper. The dependence of propulsive energetic quantities upon undulation frequency is particularly considered, and performance estimation of a porpoise is given.
