A strain of bacterium was isolated from the diseased Paralichthys olivaceus supplied by Fish Farm of Xunshan Fisheries Group Company of Rongcheng City in July, 1998. It was proved to be a pathogen of Paralichthys olivaceus by artificial infection tests. It was a Gram negative bacterium with a single polar flagellum. It was oxidase positive. Fermented glucose produced acid but not gas, and could not produce H 2S or pigment. It could grow at the temperature from 10℃ to 42℃, the pH value from 6 to 10 and the salinity from 0 5% to 6%. It was identified to be a strain of Vibrio flurialis Ⅰ by Biolog Microstation System. This strain was sensitive to the following antibiotics: ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, rifampin, furazolidone, furantoin, erythromycin and streptomycin.
