Objective To study the antitumor effect of extract from the ink of Loligo chinensis. Methods The extract from the ink of Loligo chineusis was isolated by ultrasound technique and low temperature centrifugation. Growth inhibition of tumor cells was routinely estimated by trypan blue staining in vitro, and in vivo its antitumor effects were investigated by testing the tumor weight of tumor-bearing mice (S 180 and H 22). Results The extract from the ink of Loligo Chinensis display obvious growth inhibitory effect on HL-60,CNE-2Z and HeLa cells. When administerd ip or ig 24g·kg for 15 d,the extract caused 70.8% and 69.2% inhibition rates on S 180, 70.5% and 58.1% inhibition rates on H 22, respectively. In addition, the maximum tolerance dose of the extract was above 48 g· kg~ -1(the amount corresponds to that of the natural ink of Loligo chineusis), and the LD 50 could not be obtained. Conclusion The extract from the ink of Loligo chinensis showed potent antitumor activity and low toxicity.
