Application of Genetic Algorithm in Active Power Security Correction in an Electricity Market

In this paper a method for active power security correction in an electricity market based on Genetic Algorithm is proposed.Active power security correction in an electricity market is to adjust the operation mode of a power system properly in order to alleviate overload of transmission lines with the least increase of market purchase costs.The mathematical model of the problem is offered and the theory of Genetic Algorithm and its application procedures are introduced.It is pointed out that encoding method,selection of fitness function and design of genetic operators are the key problems in the application of Genetic Algorithm and the treatment methods for these problems in this paper are introduced.The method is proved to be practicable according to the calculation results of an ieee_9nodes network example.Finally the shortcomings of using Genetic Algorithm singly are present.
