A Simulation Model DEM-CEM for Population Growth and Economic Development Study

Feng Shan
This paper presents a demographic-economic simulation model DEM-CEM system which relates population dynamics to economic development of a typical developing country. Effort to build the DEM-CEM system has been focused on the construction of an age, sex, region, educational attainment level and skill level specified, five-dimensional population model-DEM, and the integration of DEM to a Computable General Equilibrium model (CGE model) of economic development -CEM. The unbalanced sectorial expansion and its desired resource allocation among sectors, oriented by technological progress in economic modernization are described in the model through the heterogeneities of both the capital and the labour force. Simulation performed by DEM-CEM system is convincing and a selected set of simulation outcomes displayed with a brief discussion is given.
