Development and Application of a Novel Non-Contact Type Hall Displacement Sensor

A novel sensor for displacement measurement based on Hall effect is described. Experimental results show that the measurement accuracy of the sensor is 0. 01 mm within the range of 3mm. The sensor is characterized with simple construction and low cost. It can be applied to the on-line measurement of the diameter of a steel rod, steel pipe, steel wire rope or any other slender components. It can be used also to measure the thickness of the non-magnetic materials. As the magneto-electric effect is adopted, the accuracy of the displacement measurement will not be affected by the existence of non-magnetic materials such as oil, and magneto-electric effect is adopted materials such as oil and mud.
