Additional settlement induced by hole-boring and grooves on an adjacent pile foundation and its control

The deep foundation pit of Xunlimen station of Wuhan Metro Line 2 was studied,which underneath passes the viaduct of Wuhan Light Rail Transit,and a three-dimensional elasto-plastic numerical simulation model was established.The influence of the pore-forming of strengthening piles and grooving of diaphragm walls on adjacent pile foundations was calculated and analyzed.Then the calculated results were compared with field measured data to verify the rationality and accuracy of the numerical model.Finally,this numerical model was employed to analyze the mechanism of the pile settlement due to pore-forming and grooving and evaluate the effect of relevant control measures.Results show that the influence of hole-boring and grooving on adjacent pile foundations is non-ignorable.Drawing out soil beneath the pile toe should be avoided as far in practice.The effects of strengthening piles and grouting reinforcement are significant,especially the latter.If necessary,the pile settlement may also be controlled through reducing the width of the groove section.
