Numerical simulation of the densification of 316L powder during hot isostatic pressing

To investigate the densification behavior of the metal powder during hot isostatic pressing(HIP),the Perzyna viscoplastic rheological model of finite element software(MSC.Marc) was used to simulate HIP of 316 L powder.Flow behavior of the powder was studied.Mechanism of densification at different stages,distribution of the final relative density and deformed configuration for compact were also discussed.The results of prediction and experiment were compared,and it can be seen that the maximum relative error in dimension of simulation is within 8%;the accuracy of prediction in axial direction is better than that in radial direction;the simulation can give a useful method to the HIP process,and supply an important instruction to optimal design of complex shape containers.
