A New Method of Fully Automatic and Adaptive Mesh Generation for Computation with FEM

A fully automatic and adaptive mesh generating algorithm based on the advance wave front technique is presented. Some key techniques concerning the selection of base side and generation of element are discussed. Several useful schemes are given. A fast and effective element search method is proposed. Adaptive regeneration of the mesh is accomplished using the information provided by the computation results on the current mesh. Several graphic examples are given to show the performance of the algorithm. As an important part of a geometry-based, fast, effective, automatic and adaptive mesh generating scheme proposed by the authors, the adaptive algorithm is very simple and easy to operate with a finite element analysis and the mesh generated is of high quality and with element analysis and the mesh generated is of high quality and with elements of uniformly varied densities.
