The Operating Principle and Steady-State Performance of a Variable-Speed Constant-Frequency (VSCF) Double-Fed Generator

The mathematical expressions for the stator and rotor currents, active and reactive power and the electromagnetic torque of a variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) double-fed generator are derived based on the basic equation, the equivalent circuit and the phasor diagram. It is shown that the machine performance can be expressed as a function of the slip, the rator voltage and the angular displacement between the stator and rotor voltage. The influence of the above parameters on the operating characteristics is discussed using the computer simulation results of a sample machine.
