DISTRIBUTION AND MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF GLUCAGON-IMMUNOREACTIVE CELLS IN THE GASTROENTEROPANCREATIC(GEP) ENDOCRINE SYSTEM OF WATER BUFFALO

By the use of the immunohistochemical method, endocrine cells immunoreactivefor glucagon were identified in different parts of gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) system ofwaterbuffalo. The goucagon-immunoreactive cells were the most numerous in large intestineand showed distributively rising tendency from the duodenum toward tear. The distributiondensity was highest in the rectum, lowest in the cecum. In the pancreas, glucagonimmunorea-ctive cells were most numerous in the islets. stained strongly and showed brown-blackcolour. In the endocrine pancreas, the glucagon-immunoreactive cells were the less numerousand showed dark brown colour. Glucagon-immunoreactive cells showed a noticeablepolymorphism according to their location in the gastro-entero-pancreatic system, being longneck bottleshaped, cone-shaped, fusiform and ellipse. It was observed clearly that the longcellular project entered into glandular cavity, intestine lumen and adjacent cells or cellularspace. Sometimes, several endocrine cells were found on one glandular tube. It was alsoobserved that the secrete in one endocrine cell entered into glandular cavety, adjacent cellsor cellular space simultaneously, or into and out the glandular cavity simultaneously.
