RESPONSE OF F 1 GENERATIONS CROSSED BETWEEN TWO VARIOUS BORON EFFICIENT CULTIVARS OF Brassica napus TO BORON DEFICIENCY

The response of reciprocal F 1 generations crossed between Boron inefficient cultivar 9141 and Boron efficient cultivar 9118 of Brassica napus to Boron deficiency was tested under soil culture. The results obtained indicate that the mean of Boron efficient coefficient of the reciprocal F 1 generations is 0.885 when there is a Boron deficiency in soil, which is close to that of the Boron efficient cultivar (0.895), and is significantly higher than that of the Boron inefficient cultivar (0.154). When available Boron was deficient in soil, the variation of the agronomic traits and the uptake, distribution and translocation coefficient of Boron for the F 1 generations are consistent with that of the Boron efficient cultivar. It is concluded that the Boron utilization of the F 1 generations crossed from the two various Boron efficient parents is Boron efficient and the Boron efficient trait of Brassica napus is a dominant trait.
