Effects of Gynostemma on Transient Hyperuricemia in Mice

Objective To observe the effects of gynostemma on transient hyperuricemia in male experimental mice.Methods Sixty male mice were randomized into six groups:A,B,C,D,E,and F,which were respectively fed with physiological saline,allopurinol,nothing,high-dose gynostemma,middle-dose gynostemma,low-dose gynostemma for continuous ten days.Once accomplished,the mice apart from group A's were intraperitoneally injected with 0.63g/kg xanthine,resulting in increasing composition of serum uric acid.Then the values of serum uric acid and the activities of mice's livers XOD were measured.Results Comparison of the serum uric acid level and the activities of mice's livers XOD:The difference was highly significant(P0.01)with coamparison of group C,E and B.Conclusions Gynostemma is a promising Chinese herbal medicine,which has the effects of highly decreasing the serum uric acid level on transient hyperuricemia in mice.
